Indonesia Internet Contribution as Equivalent as Export Natural Gas

Internet direct contribution to the Indonesian economy in 2011 is predicted to about 1.6 percent or 13.3 billion U.S. dollars (about Rp 116 trillion). These contributions are equivalent to export liquefied natural gas in the same year.
Deloitte Access Economics director Ric Simes explains the growth of the Internet in Indonesia are growing faster than the Indonesian economy in general. In fact, in the next few years, Internet growth in Indonesia will continue to increase.

"Contribution of the Internet directly on the Indonesian economy was equivalent to the export of liquefied natural gas. It is also equivalent to the contribution of the Internet to the economy in Russia and Brazil," said Ric in Jakarta, Tuesday (13/12/2011).
That amount, added Ric, is expected to grow three times that of Indonesia's economic growth overall in the next five years. In fact, the Internet is expected to contribute to the economy it will reach 2.5 percent of total gross domestic product (GDP) until the year 2016 or to reach Rp 324 trillion.
Ric assess the growth of the Internet in Indonesia many contributed from individual users, either through Internet cafes (cafe), cafes or places that provide free Internet access (WiFi). However, that will enhance the growth of Internet access in Indonesia is the use of mobile phones equipped with Internet access and smart phones (smartphones).
"Internet penetration in Indonesia is still low compared with other countries, which is still about 9 percent of the total population of Indonesia, but its growth has been remarkable," he said.
Ric explains the role of the Internet on Indonesia's economic development can be seen from a variety of efforts that have been conducted in cyberspace (website). For example, there are motorcycle taxi business (Go-jack) that do advertising on social networking sites mainly for booking online stores to more intense
When compared with other countries, contributing to Indonesia's economic growth of the Internet is still small. "The trigger the growth of the Internet in Indonesia is of its own consumer and infrastructure. In addition, the cheapening of smart phones that can be used to access the Internet," he said.
