HP will make its mobile operating system webOS as "open" or open source.

Hewlett Packard (HP) will make its mobile operating system webOS operating system as "open" or open source. HP says this is proof of their commitment will remain active in developing the webOS.

And last November, rumors had circulated HP is offering webOS to several other vendors. Some vendors are reportedly interested in buying webOS, including Amazon, RIM, IBM, Oracle, and Intel. However, HP finally decided to "liberate" webOS.

HP bought webOS from Palm in April 2010. The first device that uses the webOS is HP tablet PCs, HP TouchPad. However, sales were Touchpad is very bad, though HP had several times cut the price.

HP Chief Executive Officer Meg Whitman declared webOS will be a discussion of open source applications based on HP's management in late November 2011. This means that HP will not escape the hands of webOS.

"Creating an open operating system webOS be a major step taken by HP this year," said Whitman.

With the status of open source, webOS source code can be changed by all people around the world and is expected to compete with Android is open source from the beginning.

Currently no further information from the source code of the operating system, whether it will be put in HP's own site, Google Code, Sourceforge or site sharing.
